Note from Janet McArthur: Janet McArthur was my maiden name, my married name is Hutchins, and I live in Cronulla, Sydney. My sisters went to Coronation Primary too, Jon was in 6th class when we transferred to Wewak in 1960, and Carla was at boarding school at Herberton. I was born in Lae; we lived down on Lae airstrip and Dad worked for DCA. My neighbours were Carmel and Vera Haythorne and Jose and Neria Ozorio. the Crowley's used to live at the end of our street. I played with Janet Stewart a lot as she lived down the bottom of the hill also. I remember you, Wendy, and I remember when you moved to the top of the hill . I remember so many names, faces are not so clear, but I will always remember my time in Lae. When I started boarding school, my first trip back home for xmas the plane was delayed from Lae to Wewak, for around 2 hours so guess where I went? I went and had a look at Lae primary A! There was such fierce emotion in me, just to be back in PNG, after being away for a whole year...

Addendum from Wendy Phillips: We can all relate to that feeling of emotion, Janet, to be coming "home". Australia might have been "home" to our parents, but it was never home to us kids who grew up in PNG, even those of us who weren't actually born there. Leone and I were just babies when we first went to Rabaul, where my sister Diane was born, and my brother Richard was born after we moved to Lae. Born there or not though, we shared a unique experience, and are forever and indelibly marked as "Territory Kids".
