General Notes:
By Sandie (Sandra Marie) Pedersen nee Parsons
Walter Parsons was the first child born to Thomas Henry and Mary Ann Parsons. Walter Parsons occupation was "Bricklayer". In the 1881 census Walter is listed as a bachelor and living at home, at Goddards Cottages, Farnham, with his parents. On his marriage certificate to Sarah Ellen Grover in 1884, he is stated as being a widow. Sarah Ellen Grover was the only child born to Charles Grover and his second wife, Mary Ann Smith. Charles and Mary Ann Grover were married on May 20,1866 in the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Aldershot, Southhamptonshire. Mary Ann Smith's father, George, was the clerk for the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Aldershot. Mary Ann Grover died in 1879 of heart disease at the age of 40 (the info passed down through the family is that Sarah Ellen's mother/parents died young and that she was raised by an uncle or aunt). In the 1881 census, Sarah Ellen Grover (13) was living with and working as a nursemaid in the employ of Alfred and Catherine Mitchell. The family was living at Frog Grove Farm, Worplesdon, Surrey. I have still to find a death for Charles Grover. Charles was married to his first wife, who was named Mary prior to 1861, as there is a christening for a George Grover, parents - Charles and Mary, on July 14,1861 in Farnham, Surrey. I have yet to find a death for the first wife and their son, George. Charles Grover was the oldest child born to George and Jane Grover (nee : Smith) of Farnham. The Grover family was a large and well established family of the Farnham area.
Sarah Ellen Grover was the second of three wives for Walter Parsons. Sarah Ellen was a girl of 17 years when she became the middle Mrs. Walter Parsons of Merrow, Guildford, Surrey. Over the space of 6 years, Sarah gave birth to 5 children. Unfortunately, at the age of 28, Sarah died at home, 2 Bleak Cottage, New Down Road, Merrow, Guildford, of Pleuro Pneumonia with Walter by her side. After Sarah's death Walter placed the children into a Catholic Orphanage. After 2 years, Walter married for the third time, in 1898, to Mary Catherine Batchelor (Gutteridge), a widow who is remembered as possibly being his house-keeper. Walter's 6th and last child was also born in 1898. Walter Parsons is said to have died around 1927, in his home in Merrow, Guildford, Surrey. His widow is said to have sold his house after his death, against the wishes of the children. To date, I have no information as to what became of Mary Catherine Parsons.
