General Notes:
By Wendy Clarke nee Phillips
William first appears in the 1871 census as a Servant/Wagoner in the household of Henry Giles, Farmer's Bailiff, at Old Tree, Hoath Road, Hoath. There is a record of his marriage to Mary Ann Nutting in 1872, and she appears with him in the 1881 Census, still living at Old Tree, though next door to the Giles family this time, with three children and a boarder, Henery (Henry) Nutting, a relative of Mary Ann's. William's occupation is now given as Agricultural Labourer, and Henry's as a Wagoner's Mate. In the 1891 census the family is living in Hoath Road, Hoath (most likely still at or near Old Tree), and there are three more children. William's occupation remains unchanged: he is still an agricultural labourer.
