Wendy Ellen-Mae Phillips
Wendy was born in Katoomba but grew up in Papua New Guinea, where she met her husband, Bob Clarke, at age 15. They came back to Sydney together in 1967 and were married in December that year. At that time they both worked for the Commonwealth Bank. She has done many things since - run a kindergarten and a coffee lounge, worked in recycling for a while, looped-the-loop in a Tiger Moth, and at present is turning her hand to writing a novel. She is also an artist, and has a lovely singing voice, inherited from her father, Dick (Richard Arthur) Phillips, and developed by all those years of sing-alongs over the washing up every night as a child in Lae, New Guinea. However, she considers her most important achievement to have been the raising of three children. Two survived to happy, healthy adulthood. Her youngest, Michelle, died in September 2000.
